Lift-served Mountain Biking at Okemo

LUDLOW, Vt. – The Evolution Bike Park at Okemo debuted last summer with lift-served mountain biking and several miles of trails from the top of Okemo’s South Ridge Quad chairlift. More trails are planned this summer with design and construction by Christian Robertson and the team from the Evolution Bike Park at Crested Butte, Colorado.

“As the trail network grows,” said Robertson, “there is an opportunity to create lines through forests and utilize the natural rock to offer fun and challenging riding experiences. The long-term goal is to allow a wide range of ability levels to enjoy the progression of resort mountain biking and create a venue to host premier mountain events in years to come.”

Half-a-dozen trails, rated easy and more difficult, descend through pockets of forest and across open terrain. The naturally rolling hillsides that include skiing and snowboarding trails in winter, offer a variety of well-constructed mountain bike trails with banked turns, wide wooden bridges, berms and rollers.

The Evolution Bike Park at Okemo has acquired a fleet of new Scott bikes for this season. In addition to top-of-the-line mountain bike rentals, helmets and padding are available for rent at the EVO Bike Shop, where there is a bike mechanic on duty for repair services. Bike patrol rides the trails during operating hours to ensure safety and to report maintenance needs to keep trails in top shape.

Trail access pricing is based on full-day and half-day use. Full-day access is $35 for adults (13 and older), $25 for juniors (7 to 12) and free for children 6 and younger with a paying adult. Half-day rates are $25, $17 and free, respectively. Season passes are also available for $125 for all ages. Current Okemo winter season passholders can purchase an Evolution Mountain Bike Park season pass for $99.

Okemo offers half off the full-day rate to full-time residents of Vermont and New Hampshire on Wednesdays. Residents must present a valid driver's license, hunting/fishing license or voter registration card at the time of trail-access purchase to qualify for the discount.

Scenic chairlift rides are available to non-biking visitors as well. Pricing for a round trip ride is $15 for ages 7 and older. Children 6 and younger ride for free with an adult. Tickets may be purchased at the EVO Bike Shop, in Okemo’s Clock Tower Base Lodge.
