Okemo’s Ethan Mueller receives SAMMY Leadership Award05/11/2017
LUDLOW, VT – Triple Peaks Vice President Ethan Mueller was one of three ski industry professionals who received the 2017 SAMMY Leadership Awards from SAM (Ski Area Management) Magazine. The trio, nominated by their peers, demonstrated the leadership skills needed to help steer the snowsports industry into the future. They received their awards during a ceremony at the National Ski Areas Association National Convention in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 6. The other award winners were Amy Ohran, of California, and Christopher Nicolson, of British Columbia, Canada.
"Ethan is well deserving of this peer-nominated award,” said SAM Publisher Olivia Rowan. “His parents have been great role models throughout his career but his nominators felt Ethan has carved his own style of leadership that combines collaboration and business smarts. His accomplishments and recognition at Crested Butte are many, and his peers said they are excited for what Ethan will do in this next phase of his career as vice president of Triple Peaks."
SAM’s annual SAMMY Awards honor those individuals in the mountain resort industry who, at mid-career, demonstrate the enthusiasm, passion and creativity that will shape the industry’s future.
“It has been very heartwarming to be recognized in our industry as a leader,” said Ethan Mueller, “however I feel much of the credit goes to the many great leaders and peers I have had the privilege of working with over the years. Growing up in the mountain resort business has given me a huge appreciation for our sport. Receiving the SAMMY Award has only strengthened my resolve to improve upon our industry, while also supporting other colleagues’ growth like so many have done for me.”
Mueller’s profile on the SAM website reads, “Ethan Mueller grew up on skis while parents Tim and Diane Mueller were building Okemo and, later, Triple Peaks (Okemo Mountain Resort, Mount Sunapee Resort and Crested Butte Mountain Resort). Ethan has inherited his dad’s business acumen and his mom’s knack of connecting with employees. He has worked in many sectors of the family business, as well as at Northstar and Steamboat. In his current position as Vice President for Triple Peaks, he shows his passion for continually improving the ski and ride product. Tellingly, his nominations came from employees, local town officials, and industry colleagues. All cited his perseverance, collaborative style, and thoughtful vision for connecting the resort and community.”
