Okemo Valley Golf Club Men’s League results, August 7

LUDLOW, Vt. – There's just one week to go in the Men’s League at Okemo Valley Golf and the race for the Commissioners’ Cup could not be any closer; four teams could win it all and seven teams could finish in the top three. Remaining in the top spot for the overall standings and winning top honors for the night was Stryhas Builders, as Lou Falango, Bob Fortuna, Jack Carmody and Dean Alexander combined to win 22 holes. Engel & Volkers took 2nd place for the night and jumped up the overall leader board to 2nd place with Chris Garvey, Austin Danyew, Larry Plumb & Fra Devine combining to win 21 holes. Rounding out the top three is Skygate Financial, as Kevin Theissen, PJ Garvey, Jim Poissant & Geoff Smith combined to win 20 holes. Closest to the pin winners were Chris Garvey on the 4th hole & Larry Plumb on the 8th hole.

Okemo Valley Golf Club Men’s League results, July 31

LUDLOW, Vt. – The final two weeks of Okemo Valley Golf Club’s Men’s League are shaping up to be a race of historic proportions. There are five teams that could win it all, and eight teams that could come in the money. Winning the night, July 31, and moving into third place overall, was Engel & Volkers. Chris Garvey, Austin Danyew, Larry Plumb and Fra Devine combined to win a whopping 26.5 holes. Finishing in second place for the night, and remaining in the top four in overall standings, was Knight Tubs. Clemente Delarosa, Mark Montgelas, Jake Pierce and Ken Guy combined to win 21 holes. Finishing third and staying relevant in the overall race, was Diamond Realty, as roger Danyew, Mark Griffin, Bob Ahlers and Craig Peters combined to win 19 holes. Closest to the pin winners were Clemente Delarosa on the 8th hole and Charlie Howard on the 4th.

Early season front runner, Stryhas Builders, is now back in the top spot. They won the night, July 24, as Ted Stryhas, Bob Fortuna, Ed Whitman and John Taylor combined to win 20 holes. Second for the nigh,t and sneaking their way up the leaderboard, was Honey Dew Man. Peter Girouard, Jack Koponen, Terry Thayne and Bob Herbst combined to win 20 holes. Rounding out the top three was Huntley’s Wealth Management. Scott Howard, Derek Karner, Paul Laporte and Chuck Sweetman combined to win 19 holes. Closest to the hole winners were Roger Danyew on 8th hole and Fra Devine on the 4th hole.

Dan Avery, Mark Hyjek, Doug Lemire and Rich Russo combined to win 20 holes. Finishing second for the night, and moving into forth position overall, was Honey Dew Man. Peter Girouard, Jack Koponen, PJ Garvey and Bob Herbst combined to win 20 holes. Rounding out the top three, and remaining second overall, was Stryhas Builders. Josh Rourke, Bob Fortuna, Ed Whitman and Kyle Noiva combined to win 20 holes. Closest to the pin winners were Dave Higley on the 17th hole and Clemente Delarosa on the 14th hole.

The Honey Dew Man squad walloped Built Rite MFG. with Peter Girard, Ryan McGuire, Terry Thayne and Bob Herbs combining to win 24 holes, and moving the team up four spots into fifth place. Engel & Volkers finished second for the night, and positioned themselves within two points of the overall lead. Chris Garvey, Austin Danyew, Larry Plumb and Fra Devine combined to win 23.5 holes. Okemo Valley Golf Club Men’s League results, May 22

LUDLOW, Vt. – Rain showers and cool temperatures greeted the Okemo Valley Golf Club Men’s League on Tuesday, May 22. For one player, however, there was a bright and sunny moment. Bill Bruno stepped up to the 8 th tee, choked down a bit his on his trusty hybrid for control and swung smoothly, sending his ball directly at the flag stick; two bounces and his ball disappeared into the cup for his first career ace.

Stryhas Builders won top honors of the night. Ted Stryhas, Ed Whitman, Bob Fortuna and Jack Menzie combined to win 20.5 holes. Huntley’s Wealth Management, despite having only three players, Scott Howard, Derek Karner and Chuck Sweetman, combined to win 20 holes against a stunned Skygate Financial. Rounding out the top three was Honey Dew Man. Peter Girouard, Jack Koponen, Terry Thayne and Bob Herbst combined for 20 holes won. Closest to pin winners were Mark Griffin on the 4 th and the aforementioned Bill Bruno on the 8 th .

Okemo Valley Golf Club Men’s League results, May 15

LUDLOW, Vt. – Okemo Valley Golf Club’s Men’s League moved into their match-play format on the back nine this week.  Engle & Volkers won the night, May 15, by pounding Huntley’s Wealth Management, 24-12. Chris Garvey, Austin Danyew, Larry Plumb and Fra Devine combined to win those 24 holes. Skygate HWC grabbed second place by smoking Green Mountain Appraisals, 23-13. Kevin Theissen, Bob Higgins, Jim Poissant and Geoff Smith combined to win those 23 holes. Bensons Chevrolet rounded out the top three as Trevor Benson, Eric Stocker, Charlie Howard and Jack Cassidy combined to win 21 holes. Closest to pin winners were John Goffinet and Mark Hyjek.

Okemo Valley Golf Club Men’s League results, May 8

LUDLOW, Vt. – The Okemo Valley Golf Club Men’s League gathered for their first week of competition on May 8. Clear skies kicked off the league season and the play format was a three-tee scramble.

“This season is set up to become a real dog fight,” said OVGC Head Golf Professional Michael Santa Maria. “Only two shots separated the lowest score from the highest score, and all 10 teams were under par for the evening.”

Stryhas Builders took top honors, as Ted Stryhas, Zach Fortuna, Ed Whitman and Jack Menzie won a three-way match of cards, shooting a 30. Finishing second was Diamond Realty. Roger Danyew, Mark Griffin, Bob Ahlers and Tim Faulkner shot a 30. Third place went to Knight Tubs. Clemente Delarosa, Mark Montgelas, John Boehrer and Ken Guy also shot a 30. Closest to the pin winners were Ted Stryhas on the fourth hole and Ed Whitman on the eighth hole.

LUDLOW, Vt. – The Okemo Valley Golf Club Ladies’ League gathered for their eighth week of play July 18. RVCCC took first place for the night. Peg Margiotta, Marcia Whalley, Janet Carini and Lois McArdle carded a total score of 115. Darlene Remy, Betsy McKeever, Kathy Grant, and Pam Plumb placed second for Engel & Volkers with a score of 117. Also with a score of 117, but losing the tie breaker to finish in third place, was the Northern Naturals team made up of Sarah Stryhas, Leslie Davis, KerryAnn McQuade and Jane Harrington. The medalist honors went to Mary Lou Shaw who carded a sizzling 2-under-par 33 for low net honors. The Closest to the Pin award for the eighth week went to Darlene Remy. Peg Margiotta won the Putt Off.

LUDLOW, Vt. – The sixth week of Okemo Valley Golf Club’s Ladies League play on June 27 saw DJ’S Restaurant taking a step backward with a fifth place finish. Making a charge up the leaderboard was the Stryhas Builders team. Jude Falango, Leslie Davis, Michelle Farrar and Sandy Diamond shot a league-best, even-par 35 to take top honors for the week. Engel & Volkers finished one shot behind, thanks to outstanding play of Marion Pickielnok, Pam Plumb, Pam McLaughlin and Kathy Grant, who finished the round with a 36. A four-way tie at 38 led to a long playoff match of cards with Northern Naturals and Gardens taking the third-place spot. Closest to the Pin went to Pam Plumb and the Putt Off went to Michelle Farrar.

LUDLOW, Vt. – The fifth week of Okemo Valley Golf Club Ladies’ League is in the book with play on June 20. DJ’S Restaurant remains the boss of this seven-team league with another first place finish. The foursome of LeeAnn Haskell, Sharon Griswold, Doris Eddy and Madeliene Fay is a hard team to defeat. Finishing at plus-five in this week’s quota format, DJ’s bested second place finishers Engel&Volkers by three shots in a four-way tie for places two through five,  along with Stryhas Builders, Knight Tubs, and Northern Naturals and Gardens, all at plus two. Closest to the Pin winner, on Hole 8, was Karen Reynolds at 10’10”. The Putt-Off Champion was Pat Hassleman, sinking a 21’6” putt.

LUDLOW, Vt. – The 2018 Okemo Valley Golf Club Ladies’ League kicked off the season on a beautiful, clear evening, Wednesday, May 23. Seven teams took to the course for a traditional team scramble/modified.          

The winning team, with a score of 32.8, was Engel & Volkers. The foursome of Marion Pickielnok, Sue Horsman, Kathy Grant and Diane Finn were the best on this evening, carding birdies on holes 3 and 6 that lead them to victory. In second place was the team of DJ’s Restaurant with a score of 34.7 – scoring a birdie on hole 8. DJ’s received solid play from Cheryl LeBlanc, Sharon Griswold, Madeleine Fay and Doris Eddy. The closest to the pin winner was Sharon Griswold on the 8 th . The evening’s Putt Off was captured by Marion Pickielnok who sunk a 9’ and 12’ putt.

LUDLOW, Vt. – Okemo Valley Golf Club hosted its annual Ladies’ Member-Guest Tournament on Thursday, July 19. The format of play for the day was team-of-four, two-best-ball gross and net.

Defending Champs Darlene Remy, Winnie Denis, JoJo Valente and Jane Witherwax once again took top honors by firing a 159. Winning low net with a splendid 12-under-par 128, was the team of Ruthie Schamback, Betsy McKeever, Betsy Perrott and Anne Bastis. Second gross went to former champs Harriet Parot, Liza Sachelli, Deirdre Morris and Cheryl Leblanc. They shot a 164. Winning second net was the team of Becky Montgelas, Kimet Hand, Jane Redmond and Rusty Myer. They shot a 140. The closest-to-the-pin winner for the guests was Karen Brown. LUDLOW, Vt. – Okemo Valley Golf Club hosted its annual Member-Member Tournament on Sunday, June 17. The format for the annual affair was a team-of-two, best-ball gross and net.

Roger Danyew’s seven-birdie barrage helped carry the day as he and partner Mark Gauthier combined to shoot a two-under par 68. Second gross winners were Matt Graves and Mark Kattalia as they posted an even par 70. Low net winners were Kevin Theissen and Charlie Howard with a 13-under par 57, and second net went to Rick Doyle and Rick Marasa with a nine-under par 61. Ladies champions were Harriet Parot and Peg Margiotta with an 87, while Shirley MacDonald and Sue Horsman posted a four-under par 66. Closest to the pin winners were Darlene Remy on the 8 th hole and Greg Birsky on the 17 th . Long drive winners were Sue Horsman and Matt Graves on the 18 th hole.
