Village of Ludlow
The settlement that began along the banks of the Black River in 1783 has an economic history similar to that of many small New England towns. Self-sufficient farmers were the first to settle the hillsides. As the country began to industrialize in the early nineteenth century, so did Ludlow. Woolen mills harnessed the water power of the Black River and by the mid 1800s, rail service gave a boost to travel and industry. The prosperity of those times is evident in the local architecture and ever-constant community pride and hospitality. When they’re not skiing, visitors can enjoy the fine shops, art galleries and eateries located in the village of Ludlow and its outlying areas. Alternative recreational activities in the area include sledding, snow tubing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and ice skating.
