ALL COME HOME TO MOUNTAINSIDE LIVING AT OKEMO
LUDLOW, Vt. – In 1961, Okemo Mountain Resort was one of the first ski areas to develop ski in/ski out slopeside lodging. Today, Okemo offers one of the largest inventories of mountainside accommodations in the East.
An American Indian name, Okemo means “all come home.” And that’s just what resort-lifestyle enthusiasts from far and wide are doing – coming home to Okemo for gathering with family and friends.
True to their vision, Okemo owners Tim and Diane Mueller have created a much-loved, four-season mountain resort with the ultimate convenience in slopeside family living. Families appreciate direct access to ski trails, heated pools and a pleasing selection of culinary offerings. Outdoor adventure is just a short walk out the door at any time of year
With last year’s completion of the Bixby House, 28 more slopeside vacation residences are welcoming families home to Okemo. The Bixby House is the first of two whole-ownership buildings that are part of Okemo’s Jackson Gore Phase II development plan. The building’s 84,000 square-foot layout includes elegantly appointed residences, heated underground parking and owner locker rooms. In spring 2006, plans for the Bixby House and Coolidge House were debuted in a successful real estate selection event that witnessed a commitment of $32 million at pre-construction prices. Residences varying in size from studios to three-bedrooms sold for $378,000 to $2.181 million.
What started with the construction of a simple A-Frame village adjacent to Okemo’s original base area has evolved into a variety of mountainside neighborhoods including: Okemo Mountain Lodge, Ledgewood, Winterplace, Kettle Brook, Solitude Village and Okemo’s newest full-service base area at Jackson Gore. With the welcoming Jackson Gore Inn set as the crown jewel of this hub for year-round adventure, guests can experience the ultimate in comfort and convenience with ski slope access and a full slate of base area amenities: equipment rentals, ski school, children’s programs and day care, shopping, dining, entertainment and more. The Jackson Gore Inn, Adams House and Bixby House combine the warmth and charm of the Vermont lifestyle with the accoutrements of a fine hotel. Inn rooms range in size from traditional-style hotel rooms to three-bedroom suites, complete with full kitchen facilities, gas-fueled fireplaces and spa tubs in the bathrooms. In addition to ski-in/ski-out convenience, Jackson Gore offers underground, heated parking, spa services, an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tubs, 24-hour front-desk service, concierge, valet parking and bell service.
Completed in winter 2006, the Adams House, a 39-unit vacation-ownership residence, offers elegantly appointed one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts. A third new building, the Coolidge House, is scheduled to begin construction soon.
In addition to spa and pool facilities inside the Inn, The Spring House, Jackson Gore’s new family fitness and aquatic center, features an indoor pool complex with an el-shaped recreation pool with lap lanes for designated swim times, a five-person hot tub, and a family pool with a whimsical frog slide, water fountains and splash features. The facility houses a weight and cardio room, a fitness class studio, and a racquetball court. Jackson Gore’s new multi-use sports pavilion, The Ice House, features a regulation-size ice skating rink in winter and basketball and tennis courts in summer.
The winding paved road that connects Jackson Gore to Okemo’s original Clock Tower base area, leads visitors to Solitude Village, a warm embrace of luxury and convenience with elegantly appointed accommodations, a separate day lodge, a trendy lunch spot, and private sports center with indoor/outdoor swimming pool and hot tubs. Beyond that, Winterplace, with its own private recreation center, is perched at the top of Okemo’s South Ridge region. The cozy accommodations at Kettle Brook, situated just off Bull Run and the Kettle Brook trail, offer easy access to Okemo’s original base area where Okemo Mountain Lodge, complete with wireless, high-speed internet access and the close proximity to Okemo’s premier portal, means quick and easy access to the summit and all five mountain regions. Not to be overlooked, Okemo Village and Ledgewood also offer spacious and contemporary accommodations.
The joys of the on-mountain experience start well before skiers click into their bindings and glide to the lift. Bell service – even for Okemo’s slopeside condos – means having a bellman lead guests to their accommodations upon arrival. Even better, it means having someone to carry all the gear and luggage. Fresh towels appear daily, and for stays longer than a weekend, bed linens are changed every third day.
The only thing better than slopeside lodging are the savings that come when guests take advantage of Okemo Mountain Resort Properties’ Ski and Stay Packages. Depending on the timing of their visit, skiers and riders who combine their lodging and daily lift tickets can enjoy all that Okemo has to offer for as little as $72.55 per person, per day. Slopeside Lodging Packages being offered this winter include: Early Winter Warm-Up. Mid-Winter Value Weekend, Okemo Midweek Family Values, The L-o-o-ong Weekender, and March Midweek Madness Getaway.
With all of the comforts of home, Okemo skiers and riders can enjoy the benefits that slopeside lodging accommodations offer. Pristine panoramas and pure mountain air are just steps away where the winter wonders of Vermont await skiers and riders every day.
