Before we proceed any further, please open a window. Spring cleaning can be hazardous to your health. Not only is it boring, but those chemicals can make you delirious. And if you are here reading this snow report, and not out skiing or riding already, you clearly need some fresh air. That breeze feels nice, right? Now imagine how good it feels blowing through your hair while you descend down 2,200 feet of vertical. Now that is the kind of spring cleaning you should be doing - a cleansing of the mind and soul!
We are still 100% open here at Okemo. Our base depths remain over three feet deep and there is still plenty of snow, so don't even think about calling this season a wrap. Skiers and riders will be enjoying all 119 trails today and brought back uphill quickly via 19 lifts. Please note that Wardance will be on hold today for the Skier's Edge Eastern Regional Masters Championships. We groomed over 85 trails last night, including a few unusual ones like Off the Rim, Searle's Way and Scooter. Ledges has natural moguls, and you will also find great bumps on Sel's Choice and Blackout. If you are looking to catch some air, check out any one of our six terrain parks, from the novice-friendly Hot Dog Hill to the experts-only AMP Energy Superpark. Plus, the Ross Powers Superpipe is freshly cut and providing plenty of amplitude.
We should remain dry and comfortable today, as the forecast is calling for mostly cloudy skies with only a slight chance of mixed precipitation. There will be some gusty wind, but we do not expect it to impact lift operations. High temperatures will rise to around 40 at the base and 35 at the summit.
We have tons of great events scheduled today. Adam Gardner, a founding member of the rock band Guster, will be delivering a special performance at Siena from 2:30-5:30 today. This event is open to all and there will be cold drinks and light food available. Also, you can now purchase the revised edition of "Okemo: All Come Home" from the Okemo Snowsports Shops. This is the most comprehensive and detailed collection of the people and stories that went into creating Okemo as we know it today. Author Karen Lorentz, as well as Okemo's Tim and Diane Mueller, will be in the Real Estate Showroom from 3-5 p.m. today to sign your copy.
Family events today include Candy Bag Bingo at both 2 and 5 p.m. today, as well as Family Trivia at 3 and 6 p.m. Both activities are in the Spring House and will feature prizes and snacks. Also, OkeMovie night is showing "Planet 51" in the Jackson Gore Cornerstone Room at 7 p.m. Snow Tubing at Jackson Gore will be open from 3-6 p.m. with lift-serviced tubing on all four lanes. There is much more happening, so please visit the online events calendar or call the events hotline at (802) 228-1313.
2010-2011 Season Passes are now on sale. For the lowest rates available, you must purchase by April 30th. On a more day-to-day basis, check out the Online-Only Offers page for ways to save on your next visit to the mountain, including Ladies' Day Tuesdays and Okemo Online Thursdays.
Ross and his team of expert instructors will be leading the Ross Powers Snowboard Camp here at Okemo from March 22-24. Participants can finish their season strong by learning pipe and park techniques from Okemo's resident gold medalist and his team of teaching pros. Spots are filling fast, so call the Ski + Ride School at (802) 228-1600 to claim your spot.
It is just too hard to explain how much fun these spring conditions are; you have to come experience them for yourself. Come on up and stay awhile. We have plenty of slopeside lodging and packages for any budget. We'll see you on the slopes!
Conditions may vary with weather changes and the degree of skier/rider traffic. This report reflects conditions as of the time and date noted. Conditions subsequent to the time and date of this report may differ.
