Okemo Mountain Competition Programs

2007-2008 season

Okemo Mountain's Competition Programs are designed with the long-term development of young athletes in mind. We constantly explore new ways of creating excitement. Our goal is to help competitors become the best that they can be. Whether the recreational competition path is chosen or the path to national championships, we strive to instill healthy competitive drive and the love of a lifetime sport. All competitors and participants must be a member of OMARA.  Applications must include initial OMARA dues.

Format This is our entry level program for ALL disciplines. Team Concept. No travel.

Meeting Place Okemo Competition Center
Format Must hold a USSA Competitors License and VARA License in order to race. Eastern race series requires travel. State Championships, Junior Finals, Eastern Championships. These fees do not include coaching fees for out-of-division travel. Must join OMARA.


JUNIOR 3

Meeting Place Top of South Ridge Quads
Format Two race teams emerge from this group, a Mid-Vermont Council Team and a Mid-Vermont Development Team. Each team has a Mid-Vermont race series that requires travel. Racers are grouped according to their ability. Must join USSA, VARA and OMARA.
*Mid-Vermont Council Team members will require an additional $100 training fee to be paid at a later date.

Format Designed for the athlete who seeks continued technical instruction in both free skiing and gate training but does not want to compete.

Meeting Place The Pull
Format Alpine and Freestyle instruction. Eastern Race Series requires travel. Giant slalom, slalom and free riding technical instruction. These fees do not include coaching fees for National Events. Must hold USSA, USASA license.

Meeting Place Top of South Ridge Quads
Choose Format Fresh Start Freestylers: introductory coaching in the fundamentals of freestyle skiing.
Freestyle Moguls: coaching and competition in USSA Freestyle events at both "A" and "B" levels.
Freeride: coaching and competition in the Park & Pipe aspects of freestyle skiing.


PRIVATE TRAINING
Work one-on-one with an Okemo Racing Pro and you'll find one of the fastest ways to take your ability to a higher level. From Racing to Freestyle to Snowboarding, our competition staff can help you advance. Private lessons are available for $90-100 per hour and can be booked through the Okemo Competition Center at 802-228-1483.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Travel is not mandatory for any group, however, training at Okemo may not be available on competition days.
  • In our programs that require travel, Okemo Mountain is not responsible for travel arrangements.
  • Equipment in the Training Center must be stored in lockers.
  • Helmets are required by the United States Ski Association for all participants in Giant Slalom and Super G events, and are therefore required for training these same events.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINE

Applicants must be able to master the majority of mountain terrain and ride all lifts. All new applicants must be screened before acceptance. This is to insure the readiness of the athlete and the proper program placement. Screenings are conducted the first two weekends in December. Appointments may be made through the Okemo Competition Center.

OKEMO MOUNTAIN SCHOOL

Okemo Mountain School's Will Neal in actionOkemo Mountain School was designed with the serious competitor in mind. Founded in 1992, the school provides an opportunity for skiers and snowboarders, in grades 7 - 12, to achieve both their athletic and academic goals during the winter season. It is the goal of the Okemo Mountain School that students will develop lasting values, such as a sense of responsibility for self and others, a desire to constantly improve one's life and the lives of others and to strive to be the best athlete.
