OKEMO HOSTS YOUNG ARTISTS’ PROGRAM
Former Triada Music Festival Reorganizes and Relocates to Okemo

okemo young artists LUDLOW, Vt. – The Okemo Young Artists’ Program will take residency this summer at Okemo Mountain Resort for another series of world-class concerts and masterclasses.  The program formerly known as The Triada Music Festival was founded by Marko Dreher in 2006.  This year, his efforts have been reorganized into what is now called the Okemo Young Artists’ Program.

“Summers are an important component in a young musician’s upbringing,” says Dreher. “They serve as a type of accelerated program which allows young musicians to devote themselves entirely to their musical studies without the regular obstacles of academic studies and school activities.”

The students attending The Okemo Young Artists’ Program will come to Vermont from locations around the world. Many of these aspiring, young musicians already have burgeoning careers. Some have had their Carnegie Hall debuts or presented on the national radio program From the Top. Some have given recitals in international concert halls, placed in international competitions, and performed with major orchestras.

Slated to start in June, the month-long program will consist of lessons, chamber music coaching and masterclasses. World-renowned faculty and guest artists include: Kenneth Olsen, assistant principal cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; David Bowlin, professor of violin at Oberlin Conservatory and a member of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center; Northwestern University Music Performance Professors Almita and Roland Vamos and Hans Jørgen Jensen.

Marko Dreher, Artistic Director of the Okemo Young Artists’ Program, discovered Okemo Valley nearly seventeen years ago as a participant in the Weathersfield Music Festival. Aspiring to a career in music, the talented teenage violinist already had an impressive list of musical accomplishments to his credit. The music festival had a lasting impact on Dreher’s life and musical training, as he now enjoys a successful performing and teaching career in Chicago.

Music lovers will have several opportunities to attend performances by the talented young students of The Okemo Young Artists’ Program this summer.  Weekly concerts will take place at the United Church of Ludlow, on Pleasant Street, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 24, July 1 and 8.  On Wednesday, June 18, 25, July 2 and 9, performances will take place at Okemo’s Sugarhouse mid-mountain lodge, accessible by Mountain Road. Guest artists and faculty will perform as part of The Weathersfield Concert Artists’ Series at the Weathersfield Meeting Center at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 29, July 6 and 13.
