OKEMO MOUNTAIN RESORT ANNOUNCES
2009 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
LUDLOW, Vt. - Okemo Mountain Resort's Tim and Diane Mueller are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2009 Okemo Mountain Scholarship Awards.
Nine scholarships were awarded this year to students who have worked at Okemo, or who are the dependents of Okemo employees. Criteria used to select the scholarship recipients included academic achievement, co-curricular involvement and the composition of an essay.
"Education is the cornerstone of our future," says Diane Mueller. "Tim and I wholeheartedly support the Okemo Scholarship Program as a way to contribute to the community and to assist young scholars as they embark on educational endeavors that will hopefully lead them back home again so they can lead full lives and improve the community for their own children."
Okemo Mountain Employee Scholarships
Molly Harrison, of Ludlow, Vt., worked in The Roundhouse at Okemo's Jackson Gore base area. She graduated from Black River High School and plans to pursue a course of studies in international relations at Boston University.
Cody Normyle, of Ludlow, Vt., worked at Okemo's Ice House skating pavilion. He graduated from Black River High School and plans to study business at Bentley University. Cody is the son of Okemo Lodging Director Michael Normyle.
Sandy Roundy-Lane, of Ludlow, Vt., worked at Okemo's Sugar House mid-mountain lodge. She is a graduate of Black River High School and plans to study education at the University of N.H.
Renee Seyller, of Ludlow, Vt., is a graduate of Black River High School and will be studying French at the University of Vermont. She worked at Okemo's Sugar House mid-mountain lodge and she is the daughter of Michelle Twombly, of Okemo's Ski Patrol/First Aid team.
Okemo Mountain Employee Dependent Scholarships
Nicole Lafko, of Springfield, Vt., is studying psychology at the University of Vermont. She is the daughter of Stanley Lafko, of Okemo lift operations.
Chris Olesky, of Ludlow, Vt., is the son of Coleman Brook Tavern's Carol Laundry. Chris is a graduate of Black River High School and will be attending the Community College of Vermont.
Ben Reeves, of Springfield, Vt., is studying computer engineering at the Rochester institute of Technology. Ben is the son of Okemo V.P. of Development and Real Estate Ted Reeves.
Kristen Martin, of Chittenden, Vt., is the daughter of Okemo Snowsports Shop's Dave Martin. Kristen is a graduate of Rutland High School and plans to study international relations and foreign language at Boston University.
Okemo Memorial Scholarships
Eric Richardson, of Chester, Vt., is this year's recipient of the John F. Mueller Scholarship Award. Formed by the Okemo Mountain Resort staff in memory of Dr. Mueller, this award is given to a student employed by Okemo or Mount Sunapee Resort, who is pursuing a career in medicine. Eric is studying nursing at the Community College of Vermont. He worked as a member of Okemo's ski patrol.
