OKEMO MOUNTAIN RESORT
"FAR OUT" FAMILY ADVENTURE RETREAT AUG. 14-15

okemo family adventure retreatLUDLOW, Vt. - Families with a penchant for outdoor adventure, will find Okemo Mountain Resort's "FAR Out" Family Adventure Retreat, Aug. 14-15, a fun, value-packed, summer weekend away.

Okemo's Family Adventure Retreat is designed for families with children ages 7 and older. It includes three nights of lodging and two full days of activities with options for kids only, adults only, or for the entire family together.  The total cost for the long weekend, including activities, equipment and lodging, starts at $368.90 per person for a family of four with two children.

The Family Adventure Retreat will kick off on Saturday morning. Families can choose to spend the morning facing the challenge of a Tyrolean Traverse. Every member of the family will pull themselves across a rope bridge crossing above a ravine, stream or waterfall. Adults can take an orienteering course. They will learn and implement the basic skills needed to navigate through wilderness terrain. Participants will learn how to use a map, compass, and the terrain itself to navigate through a challenging orienteering course consisting of several checkpoints. The kids-only option for the morning will be a mountain biking adventure. Participants will hit the trail, and see part of the Green Mountains through human powered locomotion. Instructors will provide tips on how to conquer challenging terrain.

Saturday afternoon offers a session in primitive survival skills as a family option. Participants will learn how to survive if lost in the woods. They will learn fire starting, shelter building and other skills. The afternoon adult option will be a mountain biking adventure, pedaling along scenic Green Mountain trails with skilled guides to assist along the way. Kids will spend the afternoon hours rappelling from the top of a cliff.

Following dinner on their own, families can gather around Okemo's mountainside meadow campfire to roast marshmallows and listen to tales of local history and folklore.

On Sunday, the race is on ... a Family Adventure Race! Families will complete a variety of challenges as a team. Each team must complete each stage together, while Vermont Adventure Tours guides assist and direct participants through the stages that include: orienteering, fire starting, ropes elements, biking, canoeing and mystery challenges.
