The Maples - disc golf course at Okemo Mountain VT

Update:  Stay tuned for opening dates during Spring 2011!

Disc Golf at Okemo VTPlay 9 holes, or a challenging 18 on The Maples - our new and distinctive disc golf course, inspired by the tradition of the maple sugaring process in the Okemo Valley. The convenient course layout circles the Jackson Gore Inn with tee markers highlighting the history of maple sugaring in Vermont.

The natural wood of the targets represents the trunks of the sugar maples, Vermont's state tree, which are tapped to draw out the tree's sap. The galvanized tubs and sap buckets are actual tools used to collect sap from those taps in the spring when daytime temps begin to warm, but the mercury falls below freezing at night.

We hope you enjoy learning about the contributions of the Sugar Maple to our heritage as much as you enjoy playing this fun sport. Take a look at the course layout (pdf) >>>

Tips from the Course:

  • Bug spray is highly recommended.
  • Wear long pants and sturdy shoes.  Discs can and do go into the woods (also known as "Out of Bounds" or "O.B.") and tall grass (also known as "the rough").
  • Team work is the best and fastest way to find lost discs!  The sooner your friends find their discs, the sooner everyone can continue play!
  • To keep it straight, throw your disc as low as possible.  The discs really turn left or right when they are thrown high in the air.
  • When throwing, have a friend spot where your disc lands.  Use landmarks to help find the disc later.  For example: "The disc landed downhill of that snowgun" or "The disc passed that tree very low to the ground before it went into the woods."
  • Consider the safe shot.
    • Holes 1 and 2: aim well right of the target to avoid throwing into the woods.  There are many thorny bushed and ground covering ferns there!
    • Hole 8: consider throwing to the bridge, then to the target instead of crossing the brook.
