Sandra Wright

The Sandra Wright Band began in 1990 after four former band mates crossed paths at the intersection of I-40 and Broadway in Nashville, TN. Soon a band was formed and every Tuesday night at the Grapevine Cafe, they crafted their sound. Sandra Wright, a native of Memphis, TN had met the guys in a local band called Bordello, an eight piece R & B showband. Drummer Lloyd Herrman had left Bordello and was in town between tours with Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. Eventually he would take Sandra and organist Moe Denham to join Gatemouth's band, touring the US and Canada. Once they saw the reception Sandra received on the road, they returned to Nashville, joined with former Bordello guitar player and vocalist Pete Marriott, and created what would become the Sandra Wright Band. After trying a few different bass players, Lloyd called in his rhythm section soul mate, John Harris to join the band. John was in Norway touring with a band in sub zero temperatures; he gladly accepted and the band was complete.

While on tour in New Jersey, the band met recording engineer, Jay Newland, who eventually recorded the band with Hipshake Productions in New York. In 1992 the SWB moved to New England to be closer to the production company and their promotional efforts. The CD "Shake You Down" was released in 1995 but after some personnel changes and the collapse of the production company, only a few copies were ever distributed. Recently we have begun reissuing this CD. See the SWB Music page for details.

After touring from Albuquerque to Halifax, the SWB cut back their traveling and concentrated on playing in New England. They have performed at high profile venues like the Toronto Soul & Blues Festival, Ben & Jerry's One World Festival, and the DuMaurier Jazz Festival in Halifax, NS. The current lineup of SWB featuring the Nerbak Brothers == Dave on guitar and Matthew on drums, as well as keyboardist Michael Sucher, is still playing to packed houses and enthusiastic audiences. Nobby Reed

Nobby Reed has always been about playing the guitar. Like so many others of his generation, he was introduced to the instrument during his early years in a magical time when some of the world's greatest electric guitarists were making their presence known. Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana and Duane Allman, just to name a few, all had one thing in common; they were playing the blues. They were emulating their heroes and playing tunes by Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, BB King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Howlin' Wolf.

Many youngsters picked up guitars in those days with varying degrees of effort and success, but Nobby was different. He didn't just pick up the guitar, he became the guitar. The guitar became part of him, and Nobby played the blues. He learned how to make the guitar do the talking, how to make it sing, how to make it cry from the depths of his soul and rejoice with the angels. You have only to watch other guitarists when they are watching him to realize you are witnessing something you just don't see or hear every day. This man can sweep an audience away to another place with his guitar playing alone.
After paying his dues in the relative obscurity of the Northeastern U.S. bar scene for many years, recording and performing in a host of different bands, he released his first solo CD in 1997 to critical acclaim both locally and nationally. "Guitar On My Back" was listed by Blues Revue Magazine as one of the top ten CDs listened to in the office by their staff. Reed hit the road with his own band and the Nobby Reed Project was born.

Nobby has always had the ability to draw great musicians to the stage to play with him. They want to play with him because they realize he is the real thing, no cheap imitation or clone of somebody else. He plays his own music his own way and that's the type of artist that gets some notice and some respect. Drummer, Eric Belrose has been with the Project since the beginning. He is as steadfast in his loyalty to Nobby as he is in his precision, power and finesse on the skins. He is a much sought after studio drummer in his own right. Although veteran Bassist and songwriter, Tim Comings, departed the band in May of 2005, he certainly brought to the Project a lifetime of recording and performing experience. A longtime friend of Nobby's he contributed to the songwriting on the second CD "It's All About The Blues" and the fourth CD, "Every Mile";. When Comings left the group, Nobby immediately enlisted the talents of his old friend, Bassist Ray Bushey to fill the vacancy. Nobby and Ray’s personal and professional relationship dates back to 1972, when they first performed together in the legendary Northern Vermont Blues-Rock band “Greafe”. Eric and Ray have also shared the stage many times over the years, thus the musical bond and vision of these three brothers-in-arms required no “honeymoon”. Belrose and Bushey immediately became one of the tightest and most powerful rhythm sections you are ever likely to hear.

The Nobby Reed project is heard on radio stations in Boston, New York, Atlanta, Dallas and as far away as Eastern Europe. Thanks to the Internet, CDs are being sold independently all over the world. NRP has shared the stage with Blues Traveler, Dickie Betts, James Cotton, Delbert McClinton, Buckwheat Zydeco, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Mighty Sam MacLain, John Mayall and the Blues Breakers, Roomful of Blues, The Neville Brothers, Eddie Money, Leon Russell and Rod Piazza.

Recently you may have heard NRP music on TV. Nobby has licensed to VH1, the History Channel, the Food Network and MTV. In 2004, a show on the History Channel called “Guts and Bolts” did a show on the making of guitars, and used 6 NRP songs. The show toured Fender and Gibson factories, they spoke of guitar greats like Clapton, Page and Hendrix, and NRP’s songs were mixed good and loud. How cool is that! Also, “Out The Bottle”, a song from Nobby’s first CD-Guitar On My Back-was licensed by Saatchi advertising agency for the Crest commercial about the older woman at a dentist office, and the old men are saying that her breasts are real. They replaced the existing music with NRP music, and it was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Crest liked it so much it may go to air. More at http://www.garageband.com/artist/a1nobbyreedproject

Chris Kleeman Band

Chris Kleeman is a master blues singer and song stylist. A performer of great energy and focus, Chris is based in the Green Mountains of Southern Vermont. Now, you may say, a Blues musician from Vermont??? You better believe it! In 1970, B.B. King produced Chris¹ first album, along with his partner at the time, Malkum Gibson.Since that time, Chris has focused on a solo career, playing in venues all over the country for over 25 years.

Chris's Blues are multi-spectral, rolling from stinging slide guitar to deft rag-time; from the Southern styles of Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell all the way up that big river to the Blues of Chicago. Muddy Waters, Elmore James... Throw in the Piedmont Blues of people like Blind Boy Fuller and Brownie McGhee, and you have a masterful concoction of influences. For dessert, throw in some scat-singing, vocal trombone, and some 12-String guitar instrumentals that will make your spirit soar. Chris is also well known for his sparkling interpretive skills, bringing songs from across a broad spectrum to spice up an already simmering, soulful pot of music. Chris plays on a 1933 National Duolian, and 6 and 12-String guitars. He has shared the stage with many performers of national stature over the years, and in 1998 and 2001 was a featured performer at the Champlain Valley Folk Festival. He recently appeared at the 2002 Montreux Jazz Festival with Bob Stannard. Chris has five recordings to his credit, and his last 2 solo projects are now compiled on CD, ³Northern Blue². Two newer CD's of Country Blues with Malkum Gibson, were released in 1999 and 2001 as well..

With the constant hype of the music world, this is a unique opportunity to see and hear the real thing, an artist of high energy and gritty musical performance; one who's been matched up to perform in shows with musicians such as:

B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, Chris Smither, Susan Tedeschi, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Rory Block, John Hammond, Koko Taylor, George Thorogood, Johnny Winter, Leon Redbone, David Bromberg,... More at http://www.chriskleeman.com/

The Gully Boys

The Gully Boys, a ragtag group of friends who found common ground in the music of the Grateful Dead, Phish, Little Feat and other jam bands, have been together 13 years. “Together,” however, doesn’t quite describe their many permutations.

Says leader and vocalist Bill Temple, “there’s been at least 20 guys that have come and gone, and come back and left, and come back again” to the Gully Boys, who typically hit the stage as a five-man combo. The current line up is filled out by Al Romero and John Sigafoos on Guitar, Dave Clark on Bass, Ron Rost on Organ and Andy Hanscom on Drums.

The original Gully Boys lineup formed in the mid-90’s at Bentley’s Restaurant in Woodstock. “A bunch of guys were living on the Gully Road, which runs along the back of Suicide Six,” says Temple. To blow off steam from their various day jobs, “we just started jamming down there, they weren’t paying us much. We knew a few songs and we’d make it up as we went along.”

When Jerry Garcia died in August 1995, Temple organized a memorial at Quechee Gorge, which drew a surprising crowd of over 300 people. Afterwards, they headed over to Seven Barrels Brewery in West Lebanon, where Temple tended bar, and plugged in. “The manager said we could just bring the whole thing down there … that was really the first official gig as the Gully Boys.”

The Gully Boys motto is “if you can’t make it up while you’re playing, you shouldn’t be playing,” and an improvisational spirit still guides the band. “We’ve always been about the jam,” says Temple. “Just throw a basic musical structure out there and get your rocks off, take it as far as you can. “Sometimes, it’s a train wreck, but not THAT often,” he says. “But other times you get to that point that makes Deadheads “Deadheads” - where that bubble pops in your head, and you go, ‘wow, that’s so awesome!’”

They’ve released one studio album. In 2005, Temple and drummer Tod Moses took charge and, with eight other musicians, made “Diluvian Dreams” in a home studio. “Diluvian Dreams” features nine original songs, all emblematic of the footloose Gully Boys sound, including the bluesy “Big Rocks,” the Dead-flavored “Cosmic Love” (a sped-up “Scarlet Begonias”) and a soulful ballad, “Beautiful.” A highlight is the humorous “Flatlander Song,” a playful dig at tourists - “you’d think they’d never seen two or three trees in the same place,” sings Temple.

Gully Boys bassist and archivist Dave Clark has also posted numerous live shows on his website, http://www.yellowhousemedia.com/yellow/music/gully.html, which is an unofficial but pretty reliable band home page.

Adam Payne and 2Adam12

The problem with rising acoustic talents is that a lot of them sound the same; but there is no mistaking the sultry sounds of Adam Payne. With a smile and sound as big as his afro, Adam entertains full crowds with his fusion of Funk, R&B, Folk, and Acoustic. There's no denying his musical talents…so the question is, who is he?

Adam is about as eclectic as his sound. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts to an Italian mother and African American father. In the late 80s, Adam and his family moved to Sarasota, Florida. By the age of 8, Adam drew his musical inspiration not from haughty music teachers, such as Mozart or Beethoven, but from Saturday morning cartoons, Sonic the hedgehog and Mario. Adam picked up the piano as he mimicked the music from cartoons and video games. During his senior year of High School he took on the guitar and the drums.

Although music is a major part of who he is, there's much more to him than that. Adam earned a B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Statistics and was a founding father of the Eta Psi Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi at the University of Central Florida. He continued on to earn a M.A. in Industrial Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

These days, Adam can be found vibing out solo, or with the full band, 2Adam12. Recently, he was featured as the musical entertainment two times on CBS Channel 4 Boston's 'Sundays With Liz Walker.'

So who is Adam Payne? He'll make you dance, make you smile, and help you with your homework all in one day. He's the Northeast's resident father of "Soul Rock" and he's coming to a venue near you. -Amanda Crump

The Few

"Can you feel that? Can you feel that groove? I doubt it unless you're listening to this CD right now. After listening to The Few's newest release, South Side of Somewhere, multiple times, I have come up with this theory. I must say this CD has a way to get you moving. Overall, with the dynamic lyrics, great guitar work and just great groove feeling you get when listening to it makes it hard to put this CD away. if you can find it and you could really dig some groove rock right about now, I would give you the go ahead and pick it up."
-Local Bands of RI review

Our main interest is having fun playing and getting people moving. We're different from other bands because we have a sound like nothing else out there. First off because of our songwriting, and how all of our influences really stand out in it, anyone from Steely Dan, to John Lennon, to G Love and special sauce can be heard in our music. Second our line up doesn't consist of a bass player. All of the bass comes from Zeke's left hand which is as funky as old gym socks, and as heavy as a hammer. We play out once a week in the New England area, so we are a tight band and even flew to Brazil to play last year.
