Orange is What's New!

We're seeing orange here at Okemo Mountain Resort for the winter of 2014/15!

New 6-Pack Bubble Chairlift  +  New HKD Tower Guns  +  New Terrain Park Consultants

Orange is Fresh
The cornerstone of our improvement plan for the upcoming winter is a brand new Leitner-Poma six-passenger bubble chair to replace the Northstar Express Quad. This is far and away the biggest lift project we’ve ever undertaken here at Okemo.

Orange is Uplifting
The Sunburst Six will transport skiers and riders over 6400 feet in 6.4 minutes and is the longest lift at Okemo. 113 chairs will each transport 6 skiers and riders per bubble.

Orange is Hot
Okemo’s new six-passenger bubble chair is a truly one-of-a-kind lift in North America. In addition to a plush ride (think "flying sofa"), each seat is heated, offering a comfortable ride up the mountain on even the coldest of days. Okemo will offer the only chairlift in the Northeast with heated seats. A new storage barn will be constructed alongside the base terminal, and the chairs will be removed nightly from the line, keeping them warm and dry during inclement weather.

Orange is Now
Construction of this amazing new lift has already begun, with fabrication underway at Leitner Poma facilities in Colorado and Europe. In addition, the deconstruction of the Northstar Express quad is well underway, with our veteran lift heading to our sister resort, Mount Sunapee, to replace their Sunbowl quad. We’re moving web cams into place at both top and bottom to allow visitors to Okemo.com to witness this historic project taking shape.

UPDATE: We anticipate opening the Sunburst Six during Thanksgiving Weekend!. Check out the conditions report for the latest information!

Orange is Powerful
Operation Snowburst II is underway, as Okemo will soon take delivery of 100 new, energy-efficient HKD tower guns. Okemo utilizes snowmaking guns of various types, but it is the HKD SV series of guns that will be making a big impression on skiers and riders visiting Okemo, and specifically the Solitude area, this winter. The mountain-wide total of these modular and versatile tower guns now sits at 1,125! Operation Snowburst II will mean more snow for Okemo Mountain Resort skiers and riders when they need it most.

Orange is Cutting Edge
Okemo Mountain Resort and Snow Park Technologies, the world’s leading consulting team for special projects on snow, have partnered to reimagine the terrain park experience at Okemo and offer guests access to some of the most innovative parks in the East.

SPT has a long history of designing and constructing courses for events including the ESPN Winter X Games, Dew Tour, Burton US Open, signature events including the Red Bull Double Pipe, and regularly consults with ski areas in the development of many of the top ranked terrain parks in the country. Okemo’s commitment to new concepts in terrain park design continues as part of a three-year plan with SPT leading the charge.

Okemo will work with SPT to enhance all aspects of its terrain park program including design collaboration and the introduction of new learning-based terrain. One of the biggest changes this season will include moving the resort’s signature Rockstar Terrain Park from Nor’easter to Upper and Lower Tomahawk, offering skiers and riders an improved terrain experience with highly creative features. Homeward Bound will include a progression park and cross course designed specifically with those just starting out in mind.
